Sgt. Maj. Joshua R. Figueredo Sergeant Major, RS Charlotte

Sergeant Major Figueredo was born on 17 January 1980 in Melbourne FL, and was raised in Lakeland, FL.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps in September 1997 and graduated basic training as a Private First Class August 1998.


Following Basic Training (P.I., SC), Marine Corps Combat Training (Camp Johnson, NC), and then Marine Corps Communication and Electronics School (Twenty Nine Palms, CA), he was assigned to 3D Force Service Support Group in November 1998.  During this tour, he served as a Wireman and participated in various exercises along with two unit deployments with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.  In 2004 Sergeant Figueredo attached to 9th Engineer Support Battalion in support of Operation Enduring Freedom Philippines. 


In November 2004, Sergeant Figueredo was transferred to Headquarters Company, 3D Marine Regiment in the Kaneohe Bay, HI where he served as a Wireman and Platoon Sergeant.  In December 2005 Staff Sergeant Figueredo deployed with 1st Battalion 3rd Marines in support of Operation Enduring Freedom Afghanistan 1-06.


Staff Sergeant Figueredo then received orders to Drill Instructor School class 1-07, MCRD San Diego in October 2007.  Sergeant Major Figueredo served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, 1st Battalion Drill Master, and as an Instructor at the Drill Instructor School.


In January 2010, Gunnery Sergeant Figueredo reported to 7th Communication Battalion, Okinawa, Japan, where he served as a Company Gunny, 3D Marine Headquarters Group Corporals Course Director, Joint Task Force Enabler SNCOIC, and Operations Chief.  In January 2014 he was selected to First Sergeant and was transferred to 9th Engineer Support Battalion where he served as a Company First Sergeant for Bulk Fuel and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Companies.  


Ordered to Site Support Spokane, WA, in July 2015, He served as the Inspector Instructor First Sergeant.  He then was selected to his current rank and was assigned to Recruiting Station Charlotte to serve as the Recruiting Station’s Sergeant Major. 


Sergeant Major Figueredo’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3rd award) and the Navy Achievement Medal (3rd award).


Sergeant Major Figueredo is married to Haruna Gibo of Ginowan City, Okinawa, Japan. They live in Huntersville, NC and have three children: Joshua (18), Jun (15), and Jacob (14).
