Sgt. Maj. Geann F. Pereira

Sergeant Major Pereira was born on 27 December 1982 in Mantena, Brazil. After Graduating from Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School he enlisted in the Marine Corps on 5 September 2001 and attended Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Paris Island South Carolina. Upon completion of Recruit Training he received orders to Marine Combat Training (MCT), at Camp Geiger, North Carolina where he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of private first class. Following MCT he reported to Personnel Administration School in Camp Johnson, North Carolina.

In April 2002, Sergeant Major Pereira reported to Combat Assault Battalion, Third Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan where he served as an administrative clerk and a legal clerk. In June 2002 he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal. During this tour he participated in Corporation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) were he deployed to Thailand, Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. During his tour with Combat Assault Battalion Sergeant Major Pereira also participated in the Key resolve, Foal eagle Joint Exercise in South Korea. While deployed to Malaysia in support of Landing Force CARAT Sergeant Major Pereira was promoted to the rank of Corporal.
In April 2004, Sergeant Major Pereira received orders to Springfield Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) in Chicopee, Massachusetts where he served as a testing administrator. He worked side by side with the Army, Navy, Army National Guard, Air Force and Coast Guard, in supporting applicants who enlisted in the Delayed Entry Program. In March 2005 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.


In October 2005, Sergeant Major Pereira received orders to Marine Wing Support Group 37(MWSG-37), Third Marine Aircraft Wing, Miramar California. During this period Sergeant Major Pereira served as a legal clerk and as an administrative chief. In September 2007, he received orders to support Marine Wing Support Squadron 371 in Yuma, Arizona where he served as the MWSS 371 Adjutant.
In January 2008, Sergeant Major Pereira deployed to the Al Ambar Province, western Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom where he served as the Headquarters and Service Company Gunnery Sergeant and as the Adjutant for MWSG-37 (FWD). In June 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.


In April 2009, Sergeant Major Pereira reported to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. Sergeant Major Pereira was assigned to Alpha Company, First Recruit Training Battalion where he served as a Drill Instructor, Experienced Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor. In October 2011 Sergeant Major Pereira was selected to be an instructor at Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California. During this period he served as the Drill Instructor School Drill Master. In July 2012 Sergeant Major Pereira received orders to Headquarters Marine Corps, Marine Corps Base Quantico. During this period Gunnery Sergeant Pereira served as the Disabilities Chief for Manpower Management Separations and Retirement Branch. In November 2012 he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant.


In May 2015 Sergeant Major Pereira received Individual Augmentation Combat Deployment Orders in support of Operation Resolute Support where he served with multi-national forces in order to bring peace and stability to the country of Afghanistan.

In April 2016 Sergeant Major Pereira received orders to Marine Corps Embassy Security Group, Region 9, Fort Lauderdale Florida, where he served as the region Administrative Chief. During this period he was promoted to his current rank of First Sergeant. In April 2017 Sergeant Major Pereira received orders to the School of Infantry East where he served as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for Lima Company, Headquarters and Support Battalion where he was pivotal factor in the rehabilitation of injured Marines who returned to training, continued through the entry level pipeline or moved on to the operating forces.


In January 2019 Sergeant Major reported to 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines, 2nd Marine Division where he deployed to Vaerness, Norway in support of Marine Rotational Force – Europe where Fox Company was the Air Contingency Force Marine Forces Europe and Africa.
In July 2020 Sergeant Major Pereira received orders to 2d Landing Support Battalion where he service as the Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant.


In April 2021 Sergeant Major Pereira was promoted to his current rank and received orders to Recruiting Station Charlotte, where he currently serves as the Recruiting Station Sergeant Major.


Sergeant Major Pereira’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal in lieu of second award, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal in lieu of second award and the Good Conduct Medal.


Sergeant Major Pereira is married to the former Hellen Cardoso and has three children: Savannah, Daniel and Allie.
