Marine Officer applicants attempt to climb over the first horizontal-bar of the obstacle course on Paige Field aboard Parris Island, S.C., March 23, 2013. The officer applicants are students recruited from colleges and universities from across the Southeastern U.S., including all of Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida and Tennessee, to include parts of North Carolina. The candidates were brought to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island for this annual two-day training exercise where they were exposed to various parts of officer training in order to gain a better understanding of what will be expected of them when they attend Officer Candidate School at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va.
