Sgt. Maj. Jesse J. Dorsey Jr.

Sergeant Major Jesse J. Dorsey Jr. enlisted in the Marine Corps in February 1998 and entered recruit training at 2nd Battalion, Hotel Company, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California. Following recruit training; Pvt. Dorsey attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California, where he was meritoriously promoted to private first class. Upon completion he was assigned to Supply School at Camp Johnson, North Carolina, where he earned the MOS of 3051, Supply Warehouse Clerk. Pfc. Dorsey reported to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, in August 1998, as a Warehouse Clerk with 2nd Supply Battalion, Supply Company, CTEP Platoon. In January 1999, Pfc. Dorsey was sent to H&S Company, Battalion Supply where he was promoted to lance corporal, then meritoriously promoted corporal.

In June 1999 he attended Corporals Course where he was selected as a Distinguished Graduate. In 2000 he was selected to sergeant in September and then in November reassigned as the Warehouse Chief. October of 2001 he reenlisted and was reassigned to the 24th MEU where he served as the Supply Warehouse Chief. In 2002 he attended Sergeants Course and was selected as the Gung Ho Award recipient. Sgt. Dorsey deployed and participated in numerous operations including Operation Kosovo Force, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In September 2003, Sgt. Dorsey received orders to MCRD for Drill Instructor School. Upon completion of Drill Instructor School Sgt. Dorsey was assigned to 3rd Battalion, Lima Company, where he served as a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor. Upon selection to staff sergeant in 2005, he attended Career Course, where he was the recipient of the Gung Ho Award. In February of 2007 he was assigned to 2nd Amphibious Assault Battalion as the Supply Warehouse Chief where he deployed in March of 2008 attached to 1st Battalion, 9th Marines serving as a Headquarters Platoon Sergeant and Supply Chief. In April 2010, he was selected as the MARFORCOM meritorious gunnery sergeant. GySgt. Dorsey was then assigned to the Staff Noncommissioned Officer Academy as a Faculty Advisor for the Career Course until July 2012.

In August 2012 he reported to MWSS 172, Okinawa, Japan for duty as the Warehouse Chief and later was assigned as the Aviation Operations Company, Company First Sergeant upon his selection to first sergeant December 2013. He then received orders to Headquarters Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 3 in February 2014 where he deployed to Korea. Upon his return from Korea he was hand selected and redeployed with the T-AKE 14-1 as the Company First Sergeant until September 2014. He then reported to 3rd Transportation Support Battalion, Motor Transport Company A until April 2015. 1stSgt. Dorsey was then transferred to 9th Engineer Support Battalion from April 2015 to January 2016. In January 2016 he reported to Combat Assault Battalion, 3rd Marine Division as the Company First Sergeant for Combat Engineer Company and Headquarters and Service Company until September 2017. 1stSgt. Dorsey then reported to Fox Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment, MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina, as the Fox Company First Sergeant until his promotion to sergeant major November 2018. Today SgtMaj. Dorsey serves as the Sergeant Major of Recruiting Station Columbia, 6th Marine Corps District, Marine Corps Eastern Recruiting Region. 

Sergeant Major Dorsey’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four gold stars in of lieu 5th award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars in lieu 4th award he received the General Gerald C. Thomas Award for Outstanding Leadership and Inspiration he also received the Dan Daly Leadership Award. Sergeant Major Dorsey is married and has six children.
