A native of Tampa, Florida, received the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Scholarship at Plant High School in Tampa, Florida, April 24, 2019.

To receive the NROTC Scholarship, Ricky Cooper, a senior of Plant High School, had to submit a resume, several letters of recommendation, and conduct a physical fitness test. Throughout the entire selection process Cooper stayed competitive in academics, leadership, and physical fitness. The NROTC program is designed to train future leaders in the Navy and Marine Corps while they attend college.

“I love the military lifestyle due to the discipline, focus and rules,” said Cooper.

Once Cooper has completed his schooling, he will attend the Marine Corps’ Officer Candidates School in Quantico, Virginia. OCS is the first step for young men and women who have the potential to become a Marine Corps Officer.

“OCS will be a challenge but overcoming it, will provide me with a wide range of leadership skills that I wouldn’t receive anywhere else,” said Cooper.
