Sgt. Danielle McMillen, a native of Chesapeake, Va., was promoted to the rank of sergeant Dec. 2, 2013. McMillen is a fiscal clerk for the 6th Marine Corps District supply section at Parris Island, S.C. The rank of sergeant is the second noncommissioned officer rank in the Marine Corps. Marine sergeants are often responsible for the leadership and training of subordinates. Less than 15% of enlisted active duty Marines hold the rank of sergeant. McMillen said, "The most motivating thing about progressing in rank in the Marine Corps is the greater ability I now have to influence and mentor junior Marines." (Marine Corps Photo by Lance Cpl.
