SgtMaj. Alfred R. Broadus

Sergeant Major, RS Orlando

Sergeant Major Alfred R. Broadus was born in Macon, Georgia on February 27, 1972.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps on July 23, 1991 and attended Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, PISC.

Following completion of Recruit Training, he attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina. 

In November, 1991, Private Broadus attended Field Radio Operator Course at Marine Corps Communication-Electronic School, Twenty-nine Palms, California. 

From February 1992 to July 1995, Private First Class Broadus served with 2d Landing Support Battalion, 2d Force Service Support Group, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he served as radio operator, radio supervisor, and publications NCO.  During this period he served with MEU Service Support Group 26 where he participated in Operations Provide Promise, Deny Flight, and Sharp Guard.  He also deployed with Joint Task Force 160 where he participated in Operation Sea Signal in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

From July1995 to July 1996, Corporal Broadus served with Marine Wing Support Squadron 171, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing in Iwakuni, Japan where he served as radio supervisor and Embark NCO. 

From July 1996-October 1999, Sergeant Broadus served with Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twenty-nine Palms, California where he served as Range Scheduling NCOIC and the Platoon Sergeant for Range Control “Bearmat.”   During this period, Sergeant Broadus completed the Communications System Chief Course.

Staff Sergeant Broadus’ next assignment was recruiting duty.  After completing recruiter’s school in October 1999, he was assigned as canvas recruiter for Recruiting Sub-station Pine Bluff, Arkansas.  He was also served as the Officer Selection Assistant at the Officer Selection Station, Little Rock, Arkansas.  

After Staff Sergeant Broadus completed his tour on recruiting, he transferred to 8th Communication Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he served as the radio chief for Terrestrial Platoon. He served at 8th Communication Battalion from September 2002 to July 2005.  During this period, he participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom I.  He also participated in Operation Enduring Freedom with Combine Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, Djibouti, Africa.

From July 2005 to August 2008, Gunnery Sergeant Broadus served with Marine Wing Support Squadron 273, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing, Beaufort, South Carolina as the Radio Chief for Radio Platoon.  He also served as the Company First Sergeant for Motor Transport Company where he participated in support of OIF V, Al Anbar Province, Al Asad, Iraq.

From August 2008 to September 2011, First Sergeant Broadus was assigned as the Inspector/Instructor First Sergeant, Detachment 2, Motor Transport Maintenance Company, 4th Maintenance Battalion, Augusta, Georgia.

From September 2011 to May 2014, First Broadus served with Combat Logistics Company 21, Combat Logistics Regiment 25, 2d Marine Logistics Group, MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina where he served as the Company First Sergeant.  During this period, he participated in Operation Enduring Freedom, Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan where he served as the Sergeant Major for R4 Operations Group.

In May 2014, Sergeant Major Broadus transferred to Recruiting Station, Orlando, FL where he is serving as the RS Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Broadus is married to former Sonja Ladale Johnson, and they have three children: Ajani, Ayana, and Alfred II.  His personal decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars in lieu of forth award, as well as, numerous unit and service awards.
